Lost and Found

I still couldn’t find it after hours of searching. I looked everywhere, low and high. I looked over the floor and under the ceiling. I shook out the fridge and looked in the pillows. The dogs pointed at the walls and the cats sniffed through the halls. But, still, I couldn’t find it. Maybe it was like the time I couldn’t find my phone. I texted everyone to check if they had seen it, but they just laughed with the hyenas. I remembered having it in my car, so I ran to check the tub. I couldn’t see anything through the molasses, so I stuck my arm in. Time skidded to a stop as I groped around in the deep amber colored goo. I thought I had found it, but when I pulled out my hand, it held only the TV remote. Sticky tentacles of viscous brown sugar pulled the remote back to the depths of the tub. I watched in wonder as the giant squid swam off with his prize. Then! As I walked out of the bathroom door, a flash of silver caught my eye. I turned and looked. There it was!!! Right where I left it. I examined it closely in the mirror. Green eyes stared back at me through tortoise shell cat-eye reading glasses; face red from frantically racing through the house. Some people think they are lucky it’s attached otherwise they might lose it. Not me, even if it is attached, I still lose my head sometimes.
